
Avila Earns Player of the Week Honors

HARLINGEN - The North American League announced on Monday that Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings first baseman Gerardo Avila (6-3, 250) is one of two Rawlings Players of the Week.
Avila, who shares the honor Na Koa Ikaika Maui right-handed pitcher Matt Broughton, is the first WhiteWings player to earn the honor this season.
While helping the WhiteWings to a 4-2 record, Avila hit .571 (12-for-21) with three home runs, 11 RBI and four runs scored. Over his final three games of the week, Avila hit .750 (9-for-12) with two home runs and nine RBI. The first of those last three games was on Avila's birthday, when he went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
Overall, Avila is hitting .386 (32-for-83) with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 23 games.
