
Ruff Riders Acquire Former NFL Wide Receiver, Randy Hymes

ABILENE, TX. : The Abilene Ruff Riders announced on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 that the organization has acquired former Grambling State quarterback and NFL wide receiver, Randy Hymes. Hymes (6'3", 211 lbs.) will join the Ruff Riders this week as the team preps for their upcoming home game against the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. Hymes was originally signed as a rookie free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2002. He appeared in seven games (starting two) and recorded six catches for 123 yards. He spent 2003 on injured reserve but came back strong in 2004, starting in seven of the 14 games he played. Hymes registered 23 receptions for 323 yards and two touchdowns.
Hymes later resigned with Baltimore as a restricted free agent in 2005 and he saw action in all 16 games that season. He started in three of the 16 games in â05 and recorded 11 receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Hymes then signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006 and he was later released by the team prior to the start of the regular season. Hymes was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings in January of 2007, but he was released before training camp.
"Randy is a big time player who is going to make big time plays for our club at a crucial point in the season. I'm looking forward to having him come to Abilene and help our offense." stated Abilene Ruff Riders Head Coach, Gerald Dockery.
Hymes signed with the Cleveland Gladiators of the AFL in 2008 where he recorded 78 yards receiving and three touchdown receptions. Hymes was born in Galveston, Texas and he was a two-sport athlete at Grambling State playing both football and basketball for the Tigers.
RUFF RIDERS TO HOLD FREE FOOTBALL CLINIC -
The Abilene Ruff Riders will be holding a special Free Football Clinic on Saturday, May 30, 2009 from the Taylor County Expo Center. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the clinic will begin shortly after at 9:00 a.m. running until 12:00 p.m. Players will have the opportunity to learn from the best about passing, catching and playing defense.
