Akron RubberDucks News Release
Harrisburg's Hunter Jones drilled a walk-off grand slam to complete a five-run, ninth-inning rally as the Senators stunned the Akron RubberDucks with a 6-3 victory Monday night at FNB Field in Harrisburg PA.
Turning Point
The Senators (49-45) entered the ninth trailing 3-1, but Jake Noll singled and Austin Davidson walked to start the inning against Jordan Milbrath. Nick Pasquale came in from the bullpen to face Alec Keller, and induced a comebacker, but his throw to second was low for an error. With the bases loaded, Osvaldo Abreu tapped a slow grounder to third base, but Sam Haggerty's throw to the plate was high, allowing Noll to score and make it 3-2. Jones then worked a 2-1 count before launching a game-winning grand slam into the left-field stands to send the Senators home with a 6-3 win.
Mound Presence
The starting pitchers were dominant. Jake Paulson allowed just one run on five hits over his six innings, and Harrisburg's Kyle McGowin gave up just one run on four hits in seven innings.
Duck Tales
Mark Mathias broke the 1-1 tie with a one-out, opposite-field homer off Derek Self (4-2) in the top of the ninth inning. It was Mathias' sixth of the year. He drove in Connor Marabell, who had led off the inning with a single. Mathias was 2-2, with a pair of walks.
