
Royals Suffer 3-0 Loss to Thunder

Glens Falls, NY - The Reading Royals ended the calendar year with a 3-0 loss to the Adirondack Thunder Sunday at Cool Insuring Arena. Adirondack managed a goal in each period. Former Royals goaltender Drew Fielding blanked Reading with 29 saves. The Royals enter the new year with a 16-14-2-0 record, good for 34 points and two behind the Thunder for second in the North Division.
Mark Dekanich made 29 saves in the defeat. His efforts included five saves in the opening minute of the game, plus a few stops with the Thunder on a 5-on-3 edge in the second.

The Royals start a five-game homestand Jan. 5 at 7:00 p.m. with Jerry "The King" Lawler coming to Santander Arena on Pro Wrestling Night against the Brampton Beast.

Dekanich denied five shots in the opening minute. Shane Conacher gave Adirondack a 1-0 edge 46 seconds later, deflecting a net-front pass from Troy Bourke at 1:46 of the first. Mathieu Brodeur recorded the secondary assist. Dekanich denied 10 shots in the first.
Brodeur scored the second goal of the game on a low shot attempted at the right blue line through traffic at 6:22 of the second. It was Brodeur's first of the season and his first goal since the Calder Cup Playoffs with the Syracuse Crunch in 2016-17. Pierre-Luc Mercier had the helper.
James Henry extended the edge to 3-0 with a goal at 6:49 of the third.
Both power plays were 0-for-4.
