SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Kansas City Royals earned a split in their day-night Cactus League doubleheader on Friday, defeating the San Diego Padres 7-5 in Surprise during the afternoon before losing 8-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers at night.
In the day game, former Natural *David Lough* went two-for-three with a double, stolen base and run scored. 2010 Naturals pitcher *Will Smith* got the start and gave up five runs, but only one earned, in four innings. The Royals scored four runs in the eighth inning to improve their record to 16-2-1 in the Cactus League.
The nightcap didn't go as well for the Royals, as the Dodgers jumped on 2012 Natural *Yordano Ventura* for two first inning runs on their way to an 8-1 victory. Ventura, the Royals' No. 3 prospect and No. 59 in baseball, gave up three runs on five hits in three innings of work. A double by *Alex Gordon* scored *Willy Taveras* for the Royals' lone run in the fifth inning. The Royals travel to Mesa, AZ on Saturday to play the Chicago Cubs at 3:05 p.m.
