SPRINGDALE, Ark. - A double by Eric Sogard broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Tuesday in Phoenix. The Royals had an early 3-0 lead but the Athletics tied the game in the fourth inning and scored the game-winning run in the fifth off of Royals starter James Shields. Oakland got two runs in the eighth inning against former Natural Juan Gutierrez. Kansas City will host Seattle tomorrow in Surprise at 3:05 p.m. The Mariners dealt the Royals their first loss of the spring on March 7.
