Royals Sign Three to Tryout Agreements

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward John Scrymgeour ["SKRIM jor"], defenseman A.J. Mikkelsen ["MIK el sen"] and goaltender Shane Davis to ECHL Tryout Agreements.

Last season, Scrymgeour (6'1/207) (24), who hails from Pickering, Ontario, scored five goals, assisted on nine others (fourteen points) and registered ten penalty minutes in thirty-eight games in his senior season at Lake Superior State University. Scrymgeour, who received the Soo BlueLiners Award at the Lakers' team banquet, picked up thirty-one points (12g-19a) and fifty-four penalty minutes in 132 games over his four year career at LSSU. Mikkelsen (6'2/211) (25), who hails from Chestermere, Alberta, led all defensemen in the ECAC West Conference with twenty-nine points (9g-20a) in twenty-seven games for the Manhattanville College Valiants last season. At the conclusion of his senior season, Mikkelsen was selected as a second team AHCA RBK Hockey D-III All-American. During his career with the Valiants, Mikkelsen, who was a four-time All Conference selection in the ECAC West, registered ninety-one points (30g-61a) in 105 total games. Davis (5'11/185) (23), who hails from Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania, started last season with the Evansville Iceman of the AAHL, where he went 1-1-1 with a 3.24 goals against average and .915 save percentage before joining the Royals as an emergency back-up goaltender in late November. Davis served as a back-up goaltender for Reading in seventeen ECHL games last season. He appeared in one game for the team, allowing two goals on six shots in 3:22 of game time in the Royals 8-3 loss to the Elmira Jackals on February 10, 2010.

The Royals host the team's tenth anniversary home opener on Saturday, October 23, 2010 (7:05 pm), when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center.
