Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. -The Greenville Road Warriors, ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that they have signed defensemen Julien Brouillette and Wes Cunningham for the 2010-11 season.
"I am very excited to get the opportunity to work with Julien Brouillette and Wes Cunningham. They are both very steady two- way defenseman and will be key elements to our defensive group. They are both experienced and skilled players who bring an offensive element to the game. I'll count on them to be solid contributors in all areas; even strength, on the power play, and killing penalties," said Head Coach Dean Stork.
The Road Warriors acquired the rights to both Brouillette and Cunningham in trades last season. Their rights were sent to Greenville to complete the future considerations portions of two separate trades that took place between the Johnstown Chiefs, Charlotte Checkers, and Elmira Jackals.
Brouillette finished last season, his third as a pro and second with Charlotte, as the top scoring defenseman for the Checkers. His 35 assists were the third highest total for an ECHL defenseman last season. The London, Ontario native also led Jackals defenders with 38 points (10G, 28A) as a rookie in 2008-09, and earned a call-up to the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. The 23-year-old has been to the Kelly Cup Playoffs each of the last two seasons and picked up nine points (1G, 8A) in 14 games. The 5-11, 185-pounder had a five-season career in the Ontario Hockey League that produced 123 points (15G, 108A) and 407 penalty minutes in 293 games.
