Royals' Nori Aoki Will Rehab in Northwest Arkansas

Springdale, Ark. - Acquired by the Kansas City Royals in December 2013 for former 2011 Natural Will Smith, Norichika Aoki will begin a rehab assignment Monday night in Northwest Arkansas as the Naturals wrap up a six game homestand with the Frisco RoughRiders.

Aoki is in his third season of Major League Baseball after the Milwaukee Brewers purchased his contract from the Yakult Swallows of Japan in January 2012. He finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting following the 2012 season. In 2013, Aoki finished first in the National League with 140 singles.

Through his first two seasons, Aoki batted .288 and .286 respectively, while knocking a total 18 home runs with 50 stolen bases. Since joining the Royals this season, Aoki had seven stolen bases through 68 games prior to landing on the disabled list with a strained groin on June 21.
