Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Frisco RoughRiders (9-8, 49-37) pushed across five runs through the first four innings en route to a 6-1 win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (9-9, 34-54) in the series finale and the final time the two clubs will match up during the 2014 regular season. Frisco won the season series by a 7-5 tally. Norichika Aoki started in right field for the Naturals on his Major League rehab assignment for the Kansas City Royals, he went 0-3.
Drew Robinson set the tone early for the RoughRiders as he led the game off with his eighth homer of the season. Frisco wasn't done in the inning; however, as Trever Adams blasted his ninth of the year to left field giving the RoughRiders an early 2-0 advantage.
Frisco plated three more through in the third and fourth innings improving its lead to 5-1. But, Northwest Arkansas scratched across a run during its half of the fifth to pull within four. Hunter Dozier walked to lead off the inning and stole second base with two outs; he advanced to third on the play on a throwing error by catcher Tomas Telis. Parker Morin then picked up an RBI by driving Dozier in on a single in his second game back with the club.
RHP Ali Williams and LHP Noel Arguelles were solid out of the bullpen for Northwest Arkansas. Williams tossed two innings of one-hit baseball shutting the RoughRiders out before Arguelles entered in the eighth and fired a perfect frame. RHP Angel Baez tossed the ninth and allowed a homer to Joey Gallo, the Texas Rangers fourth-ranked prospect. The Naturals bullpen hadn't allowed a run in six innings, including Sunday night's game, before Gallo's blast in the ninth on Monday.
The Naturals will enjoy an off day tomorrow after finishing the homestand with a 3-3 record. The club will begin play again in Springfield to commence a four-game series with the Cardinals on Wednesday, July 9 at 7:10 p.m. Naturals' RHP Andy Ferguson (6-6, 3.27) is slated for the series opener against southpaw Jonathan Cornelius (7-6, 3.96). Northwest Arkansas will return to Arvest Ballpark on Sunday, July 13 to open a four-game set with the Tulsa Drillers on Rally Cap Giveaway presented by Smucker's on Kids Eat FREE Family Sunday.
