PEORIA, AZ - The Omaha Royals scored four runs in the first inning, but the Portland Beavers rallied as the two Pacific Coast League clubs settled for a 7-7 tie after nine innings at the San Diego Padres' Cactus League complex in Peoria, Arizona.
Royals first baseman Craig Brazell lashed an RBI double and outfielder Jorge Padilla followed with a three-run homer in the first inning.
Second baseman Jace Brewer's two-run single in the top of the fifth put Omaha in front 6-3. But, Portland tied the contest with three runs in the sixth.
Royals shortstop Mike Aviles led off the seventh with a triple - his fourth and final hit in a 4-for-5 afternoon - and scored the go-ahead run on an error by the Beavers shortstop. However, Portland tied the game with a run in the ninth off right-hander Mark Woodyard, who had tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
The Royals, who lost to Tacoma 6-4 on Saturday, are now 1-2-1 in Spring Training action.
