St. Cloud Rox News Release
La Crosse, WI - Michael Borst (Minot State) and Ryland Kerr (Eastern Kentucky) drove in two runs each to help lead St. Cloud (34-34) to a 9-6 win over La Crosse. The Rox scored four runs in the eighth inning to reclaim the lead for good. St. Cloud has now swept each of its last two road series.
The scoring began in the second inning, when Jack Barrie (Reinhardt) scored on an error from the outfield. Borst then drove in a run on a sac-fly. Another two-run inning would occur in the third inning. Borst was back at it, this time with a ground ball in the infield that scored a run. Kerr would follow him on an RBI to the right side of the infield.
In the sixth inning, Ryan Davis (Georgetown) drilled a triple to right field, scoring Kerr from first base. Davis would finish the game with three hits, leading the team in that category.
With two innings left to play, St. Cloud trailed 6-5. The Rox responded in a big way, bringing home four runs to take a commanding 9-6 lead. With Ben Carew (Kent State) on second base, an error on the Loggers first baseman allowed him to score as Barrie ended up on third base. Two batters later, Borst hit a ball that one took one hop to the right field wall. It scored two runs and he wound up on third base. Kerr would later score Borst to put the Rox up 9-6
Finn Del Bonta-Smith (San Jose State) earned his seventh save of the season after closing out the game in the ninth inning.
Kenny Saenz (BYU) started the game for St. Cloud, tossing five innings and striking out seven batters. Sergio Esparza (Arkansas at Pine Bluff), Kyle Richardson (Texas A&M), Hance Smith (California), and Del Bonta-Smith all pitched one inning of relief work out of the bullpen.
