Brockton Rox News Release
The Rox continue their strong play as they defeated the Russian National team 5-2.
Through the first 3 innings it was a pitchers duel between Rodney Allen and Vladimir Petrov. No player got a hit until the bottom of the 3rd when Jake Daubert broke the drought with a double.
The Rox also were first to get on the scoreboard as Mike Davis scored on a Saul Bustos single in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Rox would break it open in the 5th with a 2-out rally as they scored 4 runs on 3 hits. Ben Johnstone started the rally with a single, he then stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Mike Landry followed by drawing his second of three walks on the day. Nestor Smith gave the fans something to cheer about as he drove an RBI single to right scoring Johnstone. The stage was set for Mike Torres who stepped in and hit a 3-run homerun while pinch-hitting for Mike Davis.
The Russian team would get on the boards as well as they loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the 7th. However, they were only able to plate two runs in the inning.
Newly re-signed Conor Brooks closed the door in the 9th only allowing 1 hit. Tom Crohan was strong in relief going two perfect innings; Mike Torres was the offensive star as he went 1-2 with a homerun and 3 RBI. Andre Bolotin went 2-4 in the loss.
With the win the Rox move to 2-0 in the pre-season with their next game on Saturday in Lynn against new rivals, the North Shore Spirit. The next Rox home game is Sunday at 2:05 PM also against the Spirit.
