Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (January 22, 2015) - The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced a schedule of six preseason games on Thursday. These will be their first games under new head coach Thomas Rongen and their first tests ahead of the 2015 North American Soccer League season.
The Rowdies will open their preseason schedule Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. against Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union at the Joe DiMaggio Complex in Clearwater.
The Rowdies will then travel south to the IMG Academy in Bradenton for an international match against Swedish giants Malmö FF on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. To purchase tickets for this match, click here. Malmo FF is the reigning Swedish Allsvenskan champion and was placed in a 2014-2015 UEFA Champions League group with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, Italian champions Juventus and Greek champions Olympiacos but did not advance to the knockout stage.
In March, the Rowdies will play against the University of South Florida and The University of Tampa. Rongen has previously said preseason friendlies against colleges will likely feature Rowdies trialists. First, the Rowdies will visit UT on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m., followed by a match against the USF Bulls on Saturday, March 21. The Rowdies have played both UT and USF annually since 2011.
The Rowdies will also head to the East coast at the end of March to participate in a four-team NASL challenge tournament hosted by the Jacksonville Armada at Jacksonville University. The Armada, Fort Lauderdale Strikers and FC Edmonton will also be participating in the tournament. The Rowdies will play on Wednesday, March 25 and Saturday, March 28, but opponents and kickoff times haven't been determined yet.
More information about each match will be made available as the date approaches. Additional preseason matches will be announced at a later date.
