San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Thursday, January 22, 2015) - Former NASL Golden Gloves winner Darryl Sattler will return to the defending NASL Champion San Antonio Scorpions for the 2015 season, President/General Manager Howard Cornfield and Head Coach Alen Marcina announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal was not disclosed.

"Darryl was the best goalkeeper in the NASL in 2012 and led the team to the top record in the league that year," said Cornfield. "He's also a leader in the locker room and is the kind of player championship teams need."

In 2012, the 6'2" Sattler led the NASL with a 0.79 Goals Against Average(GAA) and posted 13 shutouts in 26 starts - also tops in the league. Sattler made one start in 2014, earning a win in New York over the Cosmos and was with the team for their run to the 2014 NASL Championship.

"I have been blessed with many amazing opportunities to play and coach this beautiful game," said Sattler. "I am thrilled to be returning to the Scorpions and Soccer for a Cause. San Antonio holds and will always hold a special place in my heart. I am a footballer. I love competition and look forward to defending our title."

The 33-year-old native Tennessean played college soccer at Western Kentucky, where he still holds the career record for most shutouts with 19. In addition to his previous stint with the Scorpions, Sattler has played professionally for the Nashville Metros (USL PDL), Memphis Express (USL PDL), Atlanta Silverbacks (USL 1st Div), Wilmington Hammerheads (USL Pro), FC Tampa Bay (NASL) and Minnesota United (NASL).

With the move, the Scorpions now have eleven players on the roster for 2015:

GK - Sattler

D - DeRoux, James

M - Menjivar, Castillo, Forbes, Soto

F - Elizondo, Hassli, Zahorski, Caesar

The Scorpions will begin defense of their championship when the NASL Spring Season kicks off on April 4 at Toyota Field against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. For information on Scorpions season tickets, call 210-495-8686 or visit SAScorpions.com.
