Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - The Express (18-23) kicked off a eight-game home stand with a win Thursday, holding off Colorado Springs (23-16), 3-2.

The Sky Sox struck first in the top of the third inning, when pitcher Josh Fogg helped his own cause with a one-out single to right-center field. Fogg then advanced to second on a balk by Express starter Yorman Bazardo. With two outs,Mike McCoy hit a dying liner to shallow right field. Express right fielder Yordany Ramirez closed in and dove forward for the ball, but couldn't keep control as he hit the ground, allowing Fogg to score and McCoy to reach first safely on the hit. Bazardo exacted his revenge by picking McCoy off at first base to end the inning and minimize the damage at 1-0.

Round Rock answered in the fifth. J.R. Towles walked to lead off the inning, then stole second base with one out and Edwin Maysonet at the plate. Maysonet flew out to second base, and after Ramirez was intentionally walked by Fogg to get to Bazardo, Bazardo bloop singled to center to score Towles and tie the game, 1-1.

The Express kept rolling in the seventh inning when Chris Johnson singled to lead off the inning. With two outs, pinch hitter John Gall walked to put runners at first and second. Reggie Abercrombie singled through the hole at second base to score Johnson, and put runners at first and third. With Tommy Manzella batting, Abercrombie stole second base, the ball was bobbled by Sky Sox second baseman Eric Young, Jr., and Gall scooted home to make it 3-1 in favor of the home team.

Round Rock closer Chad Paronto had an adventure in the bottom of the ninth, allowing three base runners and a run, but held on for his league-leading 10th save of the season.

Bazardo earned the win for a seven-inning performance in which he allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts.

On the offensive side, Bogusevic led the team in hits with two.

The two teams meet for game two of the four-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Round Rock sends RHP Jose Capellan to the mound, while the Sky Sox will send RHP Brandon Hynick.
