NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas - The Frisco RoughRiders pulled out a 2-1 win over the Arkansas Travelers to open the series at Dickey-Stephens Park on Tuesday.
Trevor Hauver provided the two RBIs for Frisco (18-21). He singled in the fourth inning to score Thomas Saggese and Kellen Strahm to take a 2-1 lead. The RoughRiders had spotted a 1-0 lead to Arkansas (25-15) in the first inning and shut out the Travelers from that point on.
Jack Leiter went four innings with four strikeouts, while allowing one run and working around seven walks and ceding just one hit. Nick Starr (2-2) replaced him and threw two hitless innings. Theo McDowell and Alex Speas threw scoreless innings as well to set up Antoine Kelly's save in the ninth.
The Travelers put two runners aboard with no outs in the final inning before Kelly struck out the next three hitters to take the save. The RoughRiders recorded 11 of the final 12 outs on strikeouts and tallied 15 strikeouts on the evening.
The Travelers' starting pitcher, Bryan Woo (2-2), gave up two runs in five innings to take the loss.
Tuesday was the first win for Frisco this season scoring one or two runs.
Besides Hauver's single, the only other hits for Frisco were Saggese's double to lead off the fourth inning, an Evan Carter single and an infield single by Luisangel Acuña.
In the second game of the six-game series in Arkansas on Wednesday, May 24, RHP Ryan Garcia (1-3, 7.99 ERA) starts for Frisco, while LHP Ethan Lindow goes for Arkansas (0-1, 3.48 ERA). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
