Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have hired Cory Lonke as the team's Goalie Coach. Lonke joins the staff led by Head Coach Mark Carlson. Andrew Whiteside and Jared Brown were hired as Assistant Coaches earlier this offseason.

Lonke, 40, joins the RoughRiders staff after serving as the Goalie & Assistant Coach for the Austin Bruins of the NAHL last season.

Coach Lonke is looking forward to this season with the Riders. "I am beyond excited to join Coach Carlson and the rest of the staff. To have my first opportunity in an established hockey town like Cedar Rapids, in a league so highly regarded and under the direction of a guy as tenured as Mark Carlson is a great opportunity. I'm excited to get to work."

The Minnesota native began his coaching career in the inaugural season for the Minot Minotaruos of the NAHL in 2011. Lonke served as a volunteer Goalie Coach and grew his role to include scouting and assistant coaching responsibilities. Lonke was with Minot until 2017.

After gaining experience with the Minotaruos, Lonke gained coaching experience at the High School level and scouting experience in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Lonke was the Varsity & Junior Varsity Assistant and Goalie Coach for Shakopee Senior High School in Minnesota from 2016-2018. He then took over Head Coaching responsibilities for New Prague Senior High School in Minnesota from 2018-2020.

As for the scouting side of hockey operations, Lonke has served as a US Scout for two organizations in the AJHL since 2017. He scouted for the Camrose Kodiaks from 2017-2019 and has scouted for the Lloydminster Bobcats since 2017.

Lonke played Goalie for the College of St. Scholastica from 2001-2003. The 5'8" netminder played in 35 career games over the two years for the Division III school.

"We welcome Cory to the RoughRiders," said Mark Carlson. "We look forward to his contributions, not only with our goalies but our entire program and all the players."

The RoughRiders are excited to welcome Cory to Ridertown!
