RoughRiders Alum Goepfert Named to All-WCHA First Team

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders goaltender Bobby Goepfert, now a senior at St. Cloud State, has been named to the All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association First Team. Minnesota-Duluth netminder Alex Stalock, another former Rider, has been named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.

Goepfert, 23, has gone 17-9-7 with a 2.24 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and 3 shutouts this season. The Kings Park, New York, native ranks seventh in the nation in save percentage and is tied for ninth in shutouts.

Goepfert has backstopped St. Cloud to a second place regular season finish in the WCHA and a berth in the NCAA tournament. The Huskies will face Maine in the opening round of the tournament next Friday.

This marks the second straight year that Goepfert has earned All-WCHA First Team honors. Goepfert began his Husky career last season after transferring from Providence College.

Goepfert, who spent two seasons in Cedar Rapids, still holds a host of RoughRider single season and career goaltending records. In 96 career games as a Rider, Goepfert went 52-28-9 with a 2.45 goals against average, a .926 save percentage and nine shutouts. In 2001-02, his final season in Cedar Rapids, Goepfert was named United States Hockey League Player of the Year after going 27-16-5 while turning in a 2.04 goals against average, a .936 save percentage and eight shutouts.

Goepfert was a sixth round choice of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2002 National Hockey League draft.

Stalock, 19, went 5-14-3 in 23 games this season while posting a 3.34 goals against average and a .881 save percentage for a Bulldog team that finished ninth in the conference.

Last season Stalock was named the USHL's Goaltender of the Year and earned First Team All-USHL honors after leading the league in wins (28), save percentage (.931) and saves (1511). The South St. Paul, Minnesota, native ranked second in minutes played (2641:21), was tied for third in shutouts (4) and finished sixth in goals against average (2.54).

In 2004-05, his first campaign in Cedar Rapids, Stalock went 19-9-3 with a 2.73 goals against average, a .905 save percentage and one shutout. He was named playoff Most Valuable Player after turning in a 7-2-0 record, a 1.44 goals against average, a .950 save percentage and one shutout while backstopping the Riders to the first USHL Clark Cup title in club history.

Stalock was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL draft.

The Riders (31-15-4, 66 points) are in first place in the United States Hockey League's East Division. The Riders return to action tonight against the Chicago Steel in Bensenville, Illinois. The Riders next take to the ice at home on Friday, March 30 when they host the archrival Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:05PM.

The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 in advance and from $8 to $18 on game days.
