Roughnecks Sign Trio of Former Prairie View A&M Prospects for 2011 Season

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks are pleased to announce on Friday, January 21 that the organization has signed three former Prairie View A&M University prospects in WR Anthony Weeden, DB Anthony Beck, and DL Charles Alston for the 2011 season. As a senior in 2009, wide out Anthony Weeden finished fourth on the team in receiving and finished second with five touchdown receptions. DB Anthony Beck finished fifth on the team with 49 total tackles and finished second with three interceptions in 2009, and DL Charles Alston finished tenth on the team with 23 total tackles including a 0.5 sack in '09.

WR Anthony Weeden Ht. 5'8" Wt. 160 lbs. Prairie View A&M University - Wide receiver Anthony Weeden spent four seasons with the Prairie View A&M program (2006-2009) and was a standout target in the passing game as well as on special teams as a returner in 2009. During his senior campaign, Weeden posted 21 receptions for 386 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions in 10 games played. Weeden led the receiving department by averaging 18.4 yards per reception in 2009 and led the program in punt return yards.

As a junior in 2008, Weeden finished seventh on the team with seven receptions for 62 receiving yards. Weeden led the Panthers program with 162 punt return yards in 2008 and recorded 96 yards on four kick returns.

DB Anthony Beck Ht. 6'1" Wt. 200 lbs. Prairie View A&M University - Defensive back Anthony Beck was a four-year starter at Prairie View A&M where he posted a school record for interceptions returned for touchdowns (3), and compiled a total of 11 interceptions in four seasons. As a senior in 2009, Beck finished fifth on the Panther defense with 49 total tackles including one sack and 10 passes defended. Beck finished second on the team with three interceptions in 2009 and finished second with seven pass breakups.

As a junior in 2008, Beck was named to the All-SWAC First Team after finishing with 32.5 total tackles and five interceptions (two returned for touchdowns). As a sophomore in 2007, Beck played in all 10 games and recorded 41 total tackles along with one interception returned for a touchdown. His 92-yard interception returned for a touchdown came in the Panthers season-opening win over Texas Southern in 2007.

DL Charles Alston Ht. 6'5" Wt. 295 lbs. Prairie View A&M University - Defensive linemen Charles Alston held a productive senior season in 2009 by finishing tenth on the team with 23 total tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss and a 0.5 sack. Alston made a strong impact on the Panthers defensive line and helped the program finish 9-1 and clinch the SWAC Title with a 30-24 win over Alabama A&M. As a junior in 2008, Alston collected four total tackles along with 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack in four games played.
