West Texas Roughnecks News Release

ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Thursday, February 5, 2009 that the organization has acquired three prospects for the 2009 training camp roster. OL Josh Pugh, QB Walter Washington and DB Chris Nunez will add depth to their respected positions for Odessa this coming season. Pugh and Washington are former Division-1A college players as Nunez is an outstanding local product from Permian High School.

Josh Pugh (OL) 6'4", 330 lbs. University of Alabama -

Pugh played most of his college career in a backup role for Alabama but was scouted as an explosive offensive lineman with great athletic ability. In 2008, Pugh played with the Huntington Heroes of the AIFA where he became a starter and registered a great season. Pugh was part of a solid offensive line for the Heroes that compiled a 6-8 regular season record only to lose in the first round of the AIFA playoffs to the eventual AIFA Champion Florence Phantoms.

"Josh Pugh is a player. He had an outstanding season in Huntington last year. We signed him because we wanted to get more big guys in here with indoor football experience. He will compete and make himself known in training camp." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.

Walter Washington (QB) 6'0", 215 lbs. Temple University -

Washington returns to the Roughnecks this season as a back-up quarterback and athlete. Washington was with Odessa in 2007 and he also spent some time in NFL Europe with the Berlin Thunder. Washington had an outstanding career at Temple University. He became the first Owls quarterback to rush for more than 100 yards and score four rushing touchdowns in a single game. In 2003 he averaged 315 yards of total offense against high-powered programs Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Along with his running abilities, Washington is also a strong-armed passer and can be a dangerous threat on the field.

"Walter has been in our system before (2007). He understands that we have a starting quarterback now and that he is being signed in a back-up capacity. I also want to move him around this season and give him opportunities to use his natural athleticism. You will see him return kicks, play running back, and even run some routes at wide receiver. It will be good to have a backup quarterback that has seen a good amount of playing time in case we ever need him there." stated Head Coach, Chris Williams.

Chris Nunez (DB) 5'10", 190 lbs. Permian High School -

Chris Nunez is a local product who had an outstanding career at Permian High School. He will compete for a secondary spot in training camp. "Chris is really a good looking local athlete. I remember seeing him when he played at Permian. He has gone off and made attempts to play college ball but decided he needed to stay close to his family. I have always said that if we can find elite local athletes, that they should be playing for us. He reminds me of Sam Griffin in that he is a local kid that we feel that over time will develop into a good player for us." stated Williams.

ROUGHNECKS LAUNCH NEW WEBSITE -

In addition to player signing announcements, the Roughnecks have also announced the launching of their new website. The new address for the website is www.odessaroughnecks.com. The new website will feature news updates, photos, up-to-the minute stats and team information. The website will have exciting details that Roughnecks fans will enjoy this coming season.
