Roughnecks remain perfect

ODESSA, TX. It's week 4 on the NIFL season but the Roughnecks have just completed only their second game, second road trip, and have earned their second win. Victorious by a margin of 48-30, the Roughnecks beat the Lincoln Capitols in Nebraska coming off two early season bye weeks.

"I am very please with the performance of our team. We struggled getting our legs for a quarter or so, but pretty well dominated the majority of the ball game." stated head coach Chris Williams. After falling 17-3 early in the second quarter of Friday's match-up, the Roughnecks scored their first touchdown on a blocked kicked by Midland native John Norman. Kicker Whitney Hillin scored the extra point as part of his near-perfect performance. The game was broke wide open in the third quarter where Lincoln threw an interception just a play after a Roughnecks touchdown, resulting in Odessa scoring 14 points in a just under four minutes of play.

The Roughnecks leave mid-week for a Saturday night game in Fayetteville, NC Vs. the Fayetteville Gaurd. Fayetteville is traveling to St. Louis to face the River City Rage for each teams first game of the 2005 season.

Elsewhere Around the National Indoor Football League: Division rivals, the San Angelo Stampede also played on the road yesterday in a long trip to Casper Wyoming to face the Wyoming Calvary. For the second straight week, San Angelo fell by a decisive margin, this week 68-7 dropping to 0-2.

Several other Texas teams play tonight including the third team in Odessa's division, the Lubbock Lonestars (0-1) travel to Louisiana to face the Swashbucklers (0-0). The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (1-0) kick-off against the Tr-Cities (Washington State) Fever (0-0), and Beaumont (1-1) is scheduled in Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Marshals (0-0).
