Rome Renegades News Release

ROME, Ga. – The Renegades season opener was a great success both on the field and in attendance. With a final score of 33-21, the Renegades took home their first victory in front of a soldout crowd of approximately 2,500. "It was an extremely exciting atmosphere, and our guys could not have played any harder," said Renegades Head Coach David Humphreys. With a physical defense the Renegades held the Maulers even inside the red zone when the score was a close 27-21 and inside the 5.

The Renegades' made some big plays at the beginning of both halves, putting seven points on the board with the first play from scrimmage in each quarter. "The offense played great coming up big and really bringing the crowd into the game." said Humphreys.

The game clincher for the Renegades was the interception by Clenton Rafe running the ball back for the final Renegades touchdown at the end of the forth quarter. Both Montgomery and Rome are in the Atlantic Conference, so this win was doubly important for the Renegades. Renegades co-owner Harry Pierce said, "It was the best Good Friday I've ever had!"

From tonight's turn-out and the energy of the crowd, the Renegades are winning in every way. Tonight's Renegades game was the second sellout crowd in The Forum history. The fans were eager to get their hands on Renegades gear and those flying footballs! Autograph signing at the end of the game was another crowd favorite.

Be sure to catch the Renegades next home game on Friday, April 1 versus the Southwest Louisiana Swashbucklers. Kick-off time is again 7 p.m.
