Miami Morays News Release

MIAMI, FL –With the score deadlocked at 45 points with 3:21 left in the 4th quarter, the Morays (2-0) scored two touchdowns in eight seconds to pull ahead of the Lakeland Thunderbolts (1-1) by a score of 58-45.

Derrick Vickers threw four touchdown passes in the victory, including a 39-yard bomb to Ethenic Sands to break the tie and put the Morays ahead with 1:20 left in the game.

On the ensuing kickoff, linebacker Jimmy Williams picked up a fumble and ran it into the end-zone to seal the victory. With the win, the Morays take sole possession of the Atlantic South division.

"That was just huge for us, especially Williams running that fumble in for the score like that," Coach Little said. "Anytime you can score 12 points like that near the end of the game, it really takes a lot of pressure off."

Vickers overall went 21-26 for 226 yards, while running back Leroy McFadden ran for 28 yards and threw a 8-yd touchdown pass to receiver Kevin Heard.

Heard had a monster game on both sides of the ball. He caught seven passes for 63 yards, as well as returning a 4th quarter kickoff for a score in the place of the usual kickoff-returner Antwon Robinson, who was nursing an injury. Before the injury, Robinson returned five kickoffs for 108 yards.

Heard also had a crucial interception on defense when he was subbed in by Coach Little, who earned his first win in indoor football.

"Heard was a guy who only practiced on defense for one day, and not only did he make that crucial interception, he also just got put on the kickoff squad as well. He just made some big plays for us tonight."

Ethenic Sands led all receivers with six catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns, while the Morays offense racked up 273 yards of offense and converted on all three fourth-down situations.

The Miami Morays make their home debut next week at 7:00 PM at the Miami Arena against the Lubbock Gunslingers. Tickets are available at the Miami Arena Box Office or through Ticketmaster.
