Miami Morays News Release

MIAMI, FL – With the Morays trailing by eight points with a minute left in the game, Jimmy Williams fumble recovery gave the Morays a chance to stay in the game, but a last ditch offensive series failed to materialize with any points as the Morays (7-4) lost their first home game to the Hawgs (8-4) by a score of 39-31.

The Hawgs were denied on two first-quarter goal-line possessions, and the Morays built up a 17-6 lead late in the 2nd quarter before DaytonaÂ’s Robert Bailey caught his first of three receiving touchdowns in the game to pull the Hawgs within five points at the half. Travis Wilson and Leroy McFadden each ran for a touchdown in the first half.

With Daytona up by eight points after the third, Derrick VickerÂ’s 17 yard pass to Patrick Rouzard tied the game up at 25, but DaytonaÂ’s Brad Lee got the first of two fourth quarter rushing touchdowns to put the score 39-31 with a 1:24 left in the game. Brad Lee rushed 13 times for 31 yards.

But it was after the WilliamÂ’s fumble recovery that the Morays offense stalled again and couldnÂ’t get into the endzone, sealing the Hawgs victory. Vickers went 14-30 for 201 yards with two interceptions and two touchdown passes, while Patrick Rouzard caught a season-high nine passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

With the loss, the Morays fall a half-game behind the Hawgs for first overall in the Atlantic South Division. Despite the loss, the Morays are assured a playoff berth and will be looking to reclaim the lead in the Atlantic South or attempt to secure the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs in order to earn at least one home playoff game.

The Miami Morays take on the undefeated Everett Hawks next week at the Miami Arena on June 12th at 3:00 PM. Tickets are available at the Miami Arena Box Office or through Ticketmaster.
