June 4, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release
MIAMI â Robert Bailey's three touchdown receptions and a stifling defense in the second half allowed Daytona Beach to overcome a 5-point halftime deficit and the Hawgs climbed back on top of the Atlantic Conference South Division with a 39-31 win over the Miami Morays Saturday night in a National Indoor Football League game.
Struggling for points in the first half, the Hawgs (8-4) saw Bailey score the first of three consecutive touchdowns on passes from Oscar Davenport with 16 seconds left in the first half.
The 8-yard catch by Bailey closed Miami's halftime margin to 17-12, but it was the next two grabs that put the Hawgs in the driver's seat. Bailey's 11-yard catch to close out a six play, 45-yard drive which Nick Allison started with an interception and a 6-yard reception at 11:54 of the fourth put Daytona ahead, 25-17.
Bailey's touchdown in the third period was the only score from both teams as Daytona' s defense swarmed over Miami (7-4) quarterback Derrick Vickers, who was picked twice and sacked four times, twice by Hawgs' lineman Robert Lewis.
Davenport was 18 of 28 for 226 yards and four touchdowns but was not sacked at all in the game. Kwaku Kwasie was the other recipient of a touchdown pass, a 13-yarder with 2:30 left in the second quarter.
Brad Lee again handled all the ball carrying duties for the Hawgs and rushed 13 times for 31 yards and two touchdowns, both in the second half.
Joe Giddens had three catches for 33 yards and Erie Williams two grabs for 44 yards for Daytona Beach.
Defensively, the Hawgs saw Levar Sims and John Bowman pick up the other sacks and Micah Simons had the other interception.
Vickers ended up 14 for 30 passing and 201 yards (2 TDs) and Patrick Rouzard had a game-high 162 yards receiving on nine catches and pair of touchdowns.
