Miami Morays News Release

ROME, GA – With Head Coach Larry Little serving a one-game suspension due to a game tape not being sent into the league on time, the Morays (7-3) dropped a 70-32 decision to the Rome Renegades (5-5).

Quarterback Travis Wilson started the game to get some playing time, and threw an interception on the first drive which led to a quick Rome touchdown, but Wilson got the Morays on the board on the next possession when he found Ethenic Sands in the end-zone with a 30 yard TD pass.

But that was all the offensive scoring the Morays were able to muster in the first half, as Rome reeled off the next 43 points before the half. Derrick Vickers replaced Wilson at the end of the first quarter, but was unsuccessful in getting any offense going as well. Wilson finished the game going 3-7 with two interceptions and one touchdown.

The half ended with the Renegades up 50-12.

The Morays were able to get a third quarter safety, but the Renegades offense was too much for the Morays to stop. Vickers ran for two touchdowns in an effort to make the game competitive, but penalties and inconsistent play kept the Morays from getting any more than 20 points on the board in the 2nd half.

The Renegades managed to put 20 more points on the board, while holding the Morays to only 20 second-half points to give the Morays their 3rd loss of the season. Vickers finished the game 19-35 with one interception and two touchdown passes, as well as two touchdown runs. Sands led all Morays' receivers with eight catches for 85 yards.

The Renegades 70 points were the most points given up the Morays this season.

Despite the loss, the Morays retain possession of first place in the Atlantic South due to Daytona's loss to the Everett Hawks Friday night.

The Miami Morays next home game is on June 4th at 7:00 PM at the Miami Arena against the Daytona Beach Hawgs. Tickets are available at the Miami Arena Box Office or through Ticketmaster.
