
Roughnecks Receive Commitments from DL Mika Kane & DB Keith Isom

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks have announced on Friday, October 8 that the organization has received commitments from DL Mika Kane & DB Keith Isom for the 2011 season. Defensive linemen Mika Kane spent four seasons at the University of California (Berkeley) and was a starter for two seasons at defensive tackle. Defensive back Keith Isom is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana and spent the 2009 season with the Fort Wayne Freedom (CIFL). Isom became a standout defensive & special teams prospect helping the club reach the CIFL Championship game against the Chicago Slaughter in '09.
DL Mika Kane, Ht. 6'2", Wt. 324 lbs., University of California (Berkeley) - As a senior at the University of California in 2008, Kane played in all 13 games for the Golden Bears and recorded 14 total tackles with 0.5 tackles-for-loss. Kane split time at the nose tackle position and recorded a season-best three tackles against Oregon State. Kane also recorded two tackles against both Oregon and USC. Kane posted two total tackles in California's 24-17 win over Miami in the 2008 Emerald Bowl.
Kane posted an impressive season at Cal as a junior in 2007. In 11 games played with seven starts, Kane finished 12th on the team with 36 total tackles with two tackles-for-loss and one quarterback hurry. Kane opened the 2007 season with five total tackles, including one for a loss, against Tennessee. Kane also recorded five tackles against Arizona, six tackles against Oregon State, and recorded five tackles, one for a loss, against USC in '07.
Kane returned from finger surgery in 2006 as a sophomore to see action in ten games. Kane recorded four total tackles in 2006 and posted two tackles against Arizona State. Kane would record one tackle against Arizona and Portland State. As a freshman in 2005, Kane held his first career start against Washington State and recorded a season total of five tackles. Two of Kane's tackles, including his 1.5 tackles-for-loss, and a half-sack came against Stanford in the regular season finale.
The Kailua, Hawaii native was named the Honolulu Advertiser's Defensive Player of the Year after leading Kamehameha High School to its first Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I Championship since 1979 as a senior. Rivals.com ranked Kane as the 33rd best defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 4 overall player in the state of Hawaii.
DB Keith Isom, Ht. 5'11", Wt. 190 lbs. Indianapolis, Indiana - Defensive back Keith Isom spent the 2009 season with the Fort Wayne Freedom of the CIFL. After not receiving playing time in the first two weeks of the season, Isom was placed on the special teams unit and finished leading the club in tackles in the special teams department. Isom then received playing time in the secondary and started in the following 12 games of the regular season. Isom would lead the Freedom in tackles in five of the remaining 12 games earning multiple Player of the Game selections.
Isom would help lead the Freedom to the organization's first Divisional Title including an appearance against the Chicago Slaughter in the 2009 CIFL Championship. Isom would lead the Freedom defensive unit in tackles in the team's 10-point loss to the Slaughter. Isom's impressive season with the Freedom led to being named the 2009 CIFL Rookie of the Year.
The Indianapolis, Indiana native attended one of Indiana's most prestigious high school football programs, Ben Davis High School. Isom received three varsity letters and helped the program achieve a State Championship. Isom will bring good size and speed to the Roughnecks secondary, and he will have the ability to play at either safety or cornerback.
