Reading Express Announces Coaching Staff

October 8, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Reading Express News Release

Reading, Pa. (October 7, 2010) - First-year Reading Express Head Coach Chris Thompson formally announced today the members of his coaching staff for the 2011 season, as Mark Steinmeyer, Kenny Miller and Bill Sellars have been retained.

Steinmeyer returns as the defensive coordinator for the Express. The former All-American at Kutztown University began his coaching career in the indoor game as a defensive back coach in 2008 and served in that same capacity during Reading's championship season in 2009. Last season was his first as Defensive Coordinator.

Miller will return for his sixth season with the Express. Coach Miller has been a mainstay with the offensive line from season number one. "The Pride of Schuylkill County" added special teams to his list of duties beginning in the 2008 season. With the appointment of Thompson as head coach, the former East Stroudsburg offensive and defensive linemen will also be heavily involved with offensive game planning.

Sellars will return for his second season on the Express staff as the Defensive Line Coach. Sellars will be there to assist Coach Steinmeyer working with the defense and Coach Miller with the special teams unit.

"These three guys are not only great people but they are also great coaches," said Thompson. "It has been an honor working with them over the years and I can't wait for this season to start. Each of them bring something different and unique to the table and any head coach knows, you have to surround yourself with outstanding people, and these guys are no doubt some of the best people and coaches I know. There's been no secret that the amount of time and effort these guys put into every season has contributed to our team's overall success. We have been very fortunate over the years to have such a great working relationship and I know we are all really excited for the upcoming 2011 Reading Express season to kickoff in February."

Thompson was appointed interim head coach at the end of the 2010 season, and was promoted to head coach in July. A quarterback on the original Reading Express team in 2006, Thompson becomes the first former player to be named head coach. The Bloomsburg University product was appointed Offensive Coordinator and Assistant General Manager for the Express in 2008 and continued in that role until the end of the 2010 season. He was instrumental in developing Rob Flowers into a Most Valuable Player in the 2009 season when the Express captured the AIFA Championship. This is Thompson's first head coaching position.

Reading Express Indoor Professional Football began play in 2006 in the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. In five seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 64-20 with four playoff appearances, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading will begin play as a new member of the Indoor Football League.
