ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks announced Friday afternoon on June 19, 2009 that former 2005 starting quarterback, Jason Johnson, has been reacquired for the final three games of the ‘09 regular season. Johnson has been signed to fill the backup quarterback role behind starter Dennis Gile. Former backup quarterback Walter Washington will remain with the team however he will be moved to a different position to make room for Johnson.

Johnson (6'4", 210 lbs.) led the Odessa Roughnecks to a 14-0 regular season record and the Pacific Central Division Title in 2005 when the Roughnecks were part of the National Indoor Football League. That season Johnson threw for 1,703 passing yards and 450 rushing yards, and registered 42 total touchdowns. "Bringing Jason back is very exciting for the team and for the fans that have followed the Roughnecks since the very beginning. He is arguably one of the best players to ever play here in Odessa." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.

In 2007, Johnson played for the Laredo Lobos of the AF2. He played in eight games before suffering a season-ending injury. At the halfway point of the season, Johnson had thrown for 1,317 yards and 21 touchdowns. Additionally, he ran for three touchdowns at that point in the season.
