
Roughnecks Reacquire Defensive Great, Larry Thompson

ODESSA, TX.: The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Friday afternoon, May 15, that the organization has reacquired former stand out defensive back Larry Thompson. Thompson (6'1", 200 lbs.) re-signed with the Roughnecks on Thursday, May 14, and quickly made the flight to the Permian Basin to join the team for practice on Thursday evening. Thompson is expected to play in the next Roughnecks game versus the San Angelo Stampede Express on Saturday, May 16 from the Ector County Coliseum.
Thompson has been playing with the Florence Phantoms of the AIFA for the past two seasons ('08, â09). In 2008, Thompson helped Florence win the AIFA Championship by registering 37.0 total tackles at defensive back, and leading the team in interceptions (5), pass breakups (14) and fumble recoveries (3). Before joining the Roughnecks in 2009, Thompson played in seven games for Florence, registering 16.5 total tackles and leading the team with seven interceptions.
Thompson played with the Lakeland Thunderbolts of the AIFA in 2007 before joining the Roughnecks. Thompson finished fourth on Lakeland's roster in total tackles (21.0) and first in interceptions (8). Thompson also registered 17 pass breakups for Lakeland in â07.
Thompson is entering his fifth season with the Roughnecks ('04, â05, â06, â07, â09) as he has been marked as one the key players that has defined the successful tradition of the Odessa Roughnecks. Thompson is currently the all-time interceptions leader in Roughnecks history (25) and he was named the National Indoor Football League Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 when the Roughnecks completed an undefeated regular season. Thompson played his college ball at San Jose State.

ROUGHNECKS MAKE BIG BUCKS OFF OF PINK FOOTBALLS -
The Odessa Roughnecks additionally announced that the organization made $4,050 off of the auctions of the Pink Footballs used on Saturday, May 9. All the proceeds are going towards the American Cancer Society.
