Roughnecks FC Announce First Player for 2016
December 1, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
The second season for Tulsa Roughnecks FC officially began today with the first player signing for 2016. Head coach David Irving announced that midfielder Brady Ballew has signed a multi-year contract with Tulsa. Ballew played his first professional season as a member of the Roughnecks last year and was a finalist for the USL Rookie of the Year Award.
Ballew appeared in 23 of Tulsa's 28 regular season matches last season. He tied for second on the club with six goals while adding four assists. His 16 total points were second most on the team. He also put himself into the team's record book when he scored the first goal in franchise history in its first-ever match, a 1-1 draw with Oklahoma City at ONEOK Field.
"I am thrilled to come back to Tulsa," said Ballew. "As a player, you want to play for an organization that treats you well and to play in front of fans who are passionate about the game. I hope I can give back half as much as what the city has given us."
He added, "It's exciting to know that ONEOK Field is going to be a very difficult place for opposing teams to play because of the quality on and off the field."
Ballew has enjoyed a busy offseason. The Seattle University product traveled with several of his 2015 Roughnecks' teammates to Thailand for a series of matches, and is currently training in England with League 2 side Cambridge United.
Irving is happy to have Ballew back for the club's second campaign in USL. "We discovered Brady at a combine last year, and he did an unbelievable job for us," he said. "His potential is extremely high, and we expect him to continue to develop and to get even better as we look to build off our first season."
Irving and the Roughnecks are expected to announce several more player signings before the end of the calendar year.
Season tickets for the Roughnecks 2016 season are currently on sale at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office, at TulsaRoughnecksFC.com and by calling (918)744-5901.
