West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX: The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Tuesday, February 24, that the team has come to terms on a contract with DL Lawrence Wilson. Wilson (6'1", 280 lbs.) played 17 games in two years at the University of Hawaii and started four games as a senior at nose tackle. Wilson collected seven tackles (four solo), 1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery during his time at Hawaii. Following the 2007 season, Wilson was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Baltimore Ravens on May 4, 2007. Wilson's time in the NFL was cut short after being released by the Ravens on July 29, 2007. However, in late January of 2008, Wilson was selected 39th overall by Team Texas in the '08 AAFL Draft.
"Bringing Lawrence in gives us another high end lineman. At this level, anytime you can get a lineman on ether side of the ball that had NFL opportunities you are fortunate. He played in a great college program and we are excited to have him coming to Odessa." stated Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.
The Honolulu, HI native played high school ball at Farrington High School. Wilson was named Second Team Goodwill All-American and was a two-time Honorable Mention All-State selection while at Farrington.
Following Farrington, Wilson attended Dixie Junior College in St. George, Utah. Wilson was a two-year starter while at Dixie JC receiving All-League honors, and helped Dixie win the conference championship with a 12-1 record in 2003.
