Roughnecks Blanked at Home by Orange County

FC Tulsa News Release

The first afternoon match ever at ONEOK Field is not one the Tulsa Roughnecks FC will remember fondly as three first-half goals and a red card propelled Orange County SC to a 5-0 victory over the Roughnecks in downtown Tulsa.

It was a disastrous start for TRFC as Orange County striker Thomas Enevoldsen needed only 15 minutes to put his side in front. Enevoldsen headed home a perfect cross from Mats Bjurman to make it 1-0.

Four minutes later, an unfortunate deflection put the Roughnecks two goals down. Richard Chaplow's shot from the top of the box bounced off a TRFC defender and into the net to increase Orange County's lead to 2-0.

Things got worse in the 26th minute when Roughnecks midfielder Michael Binns was given a straight red card for a challenge on the right wing. After a lengthy delay, Enevoldsen picked up his second goal of the afternoon when he eventually slotted home the rebound on the ensuing free kick.

In the 72nd minute, the Roughnecks were shown their second red of the day as Riggs Lennon was promptly sent off by the referee for an incident off the ball.

With the Roughnecks down to just nine men, Enevoldsen took advantage to pick up his hat trick with a blast from distance to make it 4-0.

The substitute Michael Seaton delivered the fifth in the 81st minute.

Overall, Tulsa was given five yellow cards and two red cards in the game.

The Roughnecks are now winless through their first three matches of the season, while Orange County improved to 2-1-1 with its second straight win.

"The most important thing is that it is on me to get these guys mentally and physically prepared, and obviously I didn't do a good enough job," said Roughnecks Head Coach David Vaudreuil. "We played well for 35 minutes in the last game. But, out of the three games so far, the level of soccer, intensity, intelligence and discipline has not been good. We've got three red cards in three games."

"That all reflects on me. The type of character and heart, and the ability and respect for the game and fans. We have to put together a better quality showing of soccer. We are here to entertain the fans, and there is not much to be entertained by. Three games, no points and three red cards."

"I've been through it all before as a player and a coach and you can't just sit there and do anything but go prepare yourself as best you can for the next game."

The only bright spot for the Roughnecks is they will not have to dwell on the loss for long. They will be back in action Wednesday night for their third straight home match when they host Portland Timbers 2 at ONEOK Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
