Phoenix Rising Remains Unbeaten After 1-0 Win over Reno 1868 FC
March 31, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release
Phoenix Rising FC extended its unbeaten streak to three matches following a last minute 1-0 win at Reno 1868 FC.
Midfielder Solomon Asante converted his penalty kick in the waning moments of the match to seal the win for the club. He becomes the first player in club history to score a goal in each of his first three matches. (GOAL)
Asante's goal wouldn't have made the difference had it not been for the timely goalkeeping from Carl Woszczynski. Wosczynski finished the night with 2 saves. The first came less than two minutes into the match when a Reno attacker one-timed a shot from the top of the box but Woszczynski punched it away. (SAVE)
His biggest save came in the 76th minute. A Reno attacker got behind the defense and had nothing between him and Woszczynski. He rifled a shot aiming for the far side but Woszczynski made the reaction kick save to deny the opportunity. (SAVE)
The shutout marks the first of the 2018 season for Wosczynski and Phoenix Rising.
Phoenix Rising returns home on Saturday, April 7, to take on the defending regular-season champion Real Monarchs. The match kicks off at 7 pm and fans can buy tickets by going to www.PHXRisingFC.com.
