Mason finished the season tied for first on the team with four rushing touchdowns including averaging 3.3 yards a carry during the '05 season.
Mason transferred to West Alabama following his '05 season at Southern Mississippi. As a junior at West Alabama in 2007, Mason led the club with 858 rushing yards including nine rushing touchdowns in 10 games played. Mason finished first on the team by averaging 85.8 rushing yards a game and finished second in all-purpose yards a game (95.3). As a senior at Parrish High School, Mason recorded 1,940 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on route to leading his team to the Class 1A State Championship. Mason additionally posted 115 total tackles at linebacker during his senior season.
Maurice Manley FB (6'3", 252 lbs.) Mesa State College -
Manley will be converting from his normal position in college (tight end) to fullback for training camp this season with the Roughnecks. As a senior at Mesa State College in 2008, Manley earned Second Team All-RMAC honors after posting 34 receptions for 420 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games played. During his junior season in 2007, Manley caught 20 passes for 199 yards in ten games played and posted two receptions for 13 yards with one touchdown as a sophomore in 2006.
Manley began his career at Mesa State as a defensive tackle in 2005. In six games played, he recorded 10 total tackles with one sack. Manley was an All-Conference selection as a junior at Central High School (Grand Junction, Colorado) and was named to the All-State Team following his senior season.
"Maurice and Cole are both great athletes. We want to use more of a two-back offensive system this season and we believe these guys have the abilities to help us. Maurice is a natural tight end/H-back who has the talent to play at the pro level and we think he will make the transition without any problems. Cole brings a nice mix as a runner and blocker to our system. He will also be a big help to us in red-zone situations." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.
