ODESSA, TX. : As the off-season continues to progress, the Odessa Roughnecks announced on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 that the team has acquired quarterback Terry Mayo for the 2010 season. Mayo becomes the second quarterback signed to the Odessa Roughnecks this off-season and he will be competing for the starting position during training camp.

Mayo (6'3", 238 lbs.) played for two seasons at Texas A&M University-Commerce (2007, 2008) where he held the starting quarterback spot during those two years. In 2007, Mayo was named to the Second Team All-Lone Star Conference North after completing 114-of-216 passes for 1,414 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes in nine games played. Mayo additionally produced 92 yards rushing on 83 carries and five rushing touchdowns.

During his senior season in 2008, Mayo completed 127-of-255 passes for 1,659 yards and 10 touchdown passes in nine games played. Mayo recorded a 111.1 passing efficiency mark in 2008 and produced 118 yards rushing on 61 attempts and four rushing touchdowns.

"We were very impressed with his athletic background and he is very much a true professional. Terry was a very highly rated NFL prospect that did not receive the opportunity that he wanted and I believe that Odessa is a good place for him to begin professionally." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.

Before Texas A&M-Commerce, Mayo compiled an incredible junior college career while at Reedley Junior College. Mayo was rated as the No.2 junior college quarterback recruit in the country according to CollegeFootballNews.com, and he was listed as the No.27 prospect nationally. Mayo received First-Team All-State, All-Region and All-Conference honors during his 2005 campaign at Reedley. That season Mayo completed 185-of-300 passes for 2,474 yards and 22 touchdowns. As a freshman in 2004, Mayo completed 178-of-365 passes for 2,218 yards and 13 touchdowns. Mayo was initially set to transfer to the University of Central Florida following Reedley, however due to being ruled academically ineligible Mayo would transfer to Texas A&M-Commerce.

Mayo graduated from Eastern Guilford High School (North Carolina) in 1999 where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. Mayo excelled in baseball while at Guilford and he was later drafted in the 13th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft. Mayo would spend four seasons as a center fielder in the Brewers minor league system.
