Rough Riders Update

June 20, 2005 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Long Island Rough Riders News Release

The Long Island Rough Riders are preparing for their most exciting week of soccer action yet! The Rough Riders will take on the Western Mass Pioneers at Mitchel Field on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:30 PM. Long Island will attempt to get back into the win column, having lost their last two matches and falling to 500 on the season.

The team will be without the services of captain Wilmer Cabrera, still recovering from a head injury sustained during the 2-1 loss to Harrisburg City on June 11th. This will be a difficult task to handle, in addition to the fact that Western Mass currently occupies the third place spot in the USL, but the Rough Riders believe they can recapture the magic they have exuded at times throughout the season.

On Thursday, June 23rd, the Rough Riders will be holding a press conference at the Global Sports Café at 12 noon. The gathering will focus on the progression of the season so far, the latest player signings, as well as promote the upcoming events for the weekend. The Rough Riders will speak about their newest additions, including former Rough Rider and MLS superstar Giovanni Savarese. Defender Gary Sullivan and Captain Wilmer Cabrera as well as other Long Island Rough Riders personnel will be in attendance. For further information, contact the Rough Rider office.

Later on in the week, the Rough Riders will face the Northern Virginia Royals in the second half of a double header with the Lady Riders. Kickoff for the Lady Riders versus the Western Mass Lady Pioneers is at 5:30, with the Rough Riders set to kick off at 8 PM. Local politicians and dignitaries will be involved in the pre-game festivities. There will also be giveaways sponsored by Keyspan. For ticket information visit our web site at www.liroughriders.com or call the office at 516-622-3900. Come out and enjoy a double dose of Long Island soccer!
