Roubos Scores Late Game-Winner

WENATCHEE, Wash. - BlakeRoubos (Niagara Falls, Ontario) has scored his share of important goals inhis limited time with the Wenatchee Wild, but none was more important than thegame-winning power-play marker he notched with six minutes remaining inregulation to lift his team to a 3-2 victory Saturday over the Dawson CreekRage at the Town Toyota Center.

The victory was the Wild's fifth straight. More importantly,coupled with a Fairbanks loss to Fresno in the annual outdoor game, the Wildclimbed to within five points of first place in the NAHL's West Division.

Matt Cope (Lakewood,Colo.) put the Wild up less than nine minutes into the contest. Trace Redmond (McKinney, Texas) set upthe goal after he fished the puck out from behind the Rage net. Dawson Creeknetminder Edward Dyson was out of position, and Cope capitalized on a wide-opencage.

Dawson Creek came back and managed to take a 2-1 lead earlyin the second period. Scott Fellnermayr scored 3:44 into the second stanza totie up the score, 1-1. Stephen Zipp then gave the Rage a 2-1 lead 71 secondslater. Austin Adduono and Keenan Bailey assisted.

Wenatchee refused to let two valuable standing points slipaway and tacked on a pair of unanswered third-period power-play goals for thewin. Chris Kerr (Penticton, BritishColumbia) scored the first of the Wild's man-advantage goals 33 seconds intothe third frame on a backdoor shot from MaxMcHugh (Edgewood, Wash.). ShawnPauly (Bellingham, Wash.) also assisted.

Roubos' third game-winner in 21 contests with Wenatchee cameon a rebound off Cope's wrister from the top of the right circle. Chris Knudson (North Barrington, Ill.)also assisted.

Cope led the Wild with a goal and assist, extending hispoint streak to four games in the process. He has five points (3G, 2A) in thelast four games. Kerr scored his 19th goal of the season, which isthe second most on the team, to push his point streak to six games. He has sixgoals and two assists in the last six games.

Robert Nichols(Dallas, Texas) turned aside 23-of-25 shots to earn his 23rd win ofthe season. Dyson made 35 saves on 38 shots. Wenatchee scored two criticalpower-play goals on seven tries while Dawson Creek went 0-for-2 on theman-advantage.

Game 3 of this weekend's seriesbetween the Wild (34-15-6) and Rage (9-40-3) is set for 5:05 p.m. Sunday. TheWild will be looking to sweep the Rage and pick up their sixth straight win.
