Bakersfield Blitz News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 filled a large chunk of their 35-man training camp roster this week with the addition of six players. There are now 16 players currently contracted to arrive in Bakersfield thus far, with training camp officially opening this Thursday on March 17.

OL/DL David Lose (6-3, 310lbs.) spent much of 2004 with the Blitz, but saw action in just three games, with no tackles. Lose played collegiately at Oregon State on both sides of the ball, but finished his college career on the offensive line.

At FB/LB, Jeremiah Pharms (6-2, 255lbs.), a Sacramento native, enters his rookie season after playing college football at the University of Washington where he didn't miss a game in four seasons. Playing both linebacker and defensive end in college, Pharms recorded 18.5 sacks and 41 tackles for a loss in his college career, to go with 105 solo tackles. He started this season on the practice squad with the New York Dragons in the AFL.

Hendrick Robertson (5-9, 185lbs.) was added at WR/DB out of Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA, where he was a Second Team All-Mission Conference at defensive back.

QB Rich Lucero (6-2, 210lbs.) is the second gunslinger to sign on after competing last season with the Laredo Law and the Manchester Wolves. He played in parts of two seasons with Northern Arizona University and one season at the University of Massachusetts, where he set six school records and finished third in D-1AA voting for top quarterback. After being selected the top high school quarterback in Arizona in 1997, he went on to be named the 1999 Arizona Junior College Player of the Year at Phoenix College.

Duval Seamster (5-10, 190lbs.) is also added at WR/DB. After playing two seasons at Idaho University, the Miami native transferred to Humboldt State University, where he was named both Newcomer of the Year and First Team DB in the Greater Northwest Athletic Conference in 2003, leading the GNAC with five interceptions.

DS Chris Colbert enters his rookie season after attending training camp with the San Jose Sabercats, the reigning AFL champions. A graduate of Albany State University, he was twice selected All- Conference there and also played two seasons at Alcorn State.

The Blitz international draft selection, WR/DB Toshihide Nakamura, who played with Memphis in the af2 last season, will not be joining the team for 2005. His application for a visa to play in the United States was denied.

The Blitz 2005 schedule includes eight games at home and eight on the road, starting with Opening Night on Saturday, April 2nd against Central Valley. Friday Night Football will hit the Rabobank Arena this season, as the remainder of the home schedule will consist of Friday night match-ups. The Blitz will compete in the National Conference West Division along with the Central Valley Coyotes, Rio Grande Valley Dorados, San Diego Riptide and the Tulsa Talons.
