
Pyramid To Undergo Changes to Host Xplorers Training Camp

SOUTHAVEN, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 open training camp on March 17th at the Pyramid Arena in Downtown Memphis. Team officials believe the move will increase fan interest in the Memphis area.
"This is a way of reaching out to our fans in Shelby County," said Xplorers General Manager Nate Yoder. "Those who have never seen the Xplorers before will get a chance to come check out our product."
Along with the players the Xplorers will bring their arena football-style field to the Pyramid. The indoor padded turf which measures 85-feet wide and 50-yards wide, and the nine-foot wide goal post will be transported today to the Pyramid around lunchtime. The crew will then begin setup, hanging the nets and setting up the dasher walls around the field. All local media outlets are encouraged to attend this historic event in Xplorers history.
March 17th will begin a fifteen-day period in which the Xplorers players will ride through the intense schedule of training camp. Head Coach Danton Barto will work his players into game shape, insert new offensive and defensive schemes, and prepare his squad for the goal of capturing the 2005 ArenaCup.
"It's tough (training camp) but not as bad as players make it sound," said Barto. "This hopes to be our best camp ever with the talented rookies and the returning vets coming in."
Following camp, the Xplorers will open up their season on the road against the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings on April 3rd in Louisiana. The home opener is scheduled for Friday April 15th at the DeSoto Civic Center against the Arkansas Twisters.
The Xplorers will host an open practice on Saturday evening, March 19 at 5:30pm. Fans are welcome to watch the practice and catch an early glimpse of the 2005 quest for a championship.
