2005 PREVIEW: The Central Valley Coyotes enter year two of their existence in Fresno poised to become a powerhouse in the arenafootball2 League. The organization took a major step in that direction when it extended head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr.'s contract. Biletnikoff, who took over as interim-head coach last mid-season, led the Coyote's to two consecutive victories in their final games.
Quarterback
Returning to the Coyote's lineup is Juston Wood. Wood played in five games with the Coyotes last season, throwing 15 touchdowns. He will compete for the job with Orlando Evans, who the Coyotes picked up in the offseason. Evans is a mobile quarterback who led San Francisco City College to a national championship in 2001.
Offensive Specialist
The Coyotes look to fill the void of last year's all-arena offensive specialist Kenyatte Morgan, who left the Coyotes for the Canadian Football League. Former Fresno State Bulldog and San Diego Charger return man Latario Rachal could become the key free agent to take over the role.
Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
LaMonte Jones is the only returning player with experience at this position. The Coyotes also signed Anthony Arceneaux and Joshua Robinson from Hawaii in the offseason to provide depth and competition. B'Jay Jones and Ty Johnson, who played together for the Ladero Law, will team up again. Look for DeRonn Finley to add competition with his af2 experience.
Wide Receiver/Linebacker
Marvin Brown returns looking forward to a full season after having last year's cut short with an injury. Free agent acquisition Lee Finnie hopes to make an impact in his first year playing the indoor game.
Fullback/Linebacker
JaJuan Huddleston returns from the 2004 squad. In addition, Vai Notoa brings two years of experience from the Hawaiian Islanders. Rookies Steve Torgersen and Terrell Colbert look to add competition during camp.
Offensive/Defensive Line
Nathan Frowsing and Clint Merz return to anchor the line with additional depth from free agent Oscar Grejada . Former Fresno State Bulldog Joe Schey could be primed to have a standout rookie season. Veteran Antawn Harris, a former Frenzy lineman in 2002, returns to Fresno hoping to make the Coyotes squad.
Coaching Staff
Fred Bilitnekoff Jr. has put together an experienced coaching staff. Daren Miller, who was the Coyote's line coach last season, returns as the assistant head coach. Biletnikoff Jr. has also added two members of his staff that were a part of the Bakersfield Blitz the last three seasons. Steven G. Folmar, who brings over four years of arena football experience, takes over the defense and retired Blitz defensive specialist Delvin Myles will oversee the secondary and special teams.
