Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev.- RHP Diogenes Rosario was solid in his spot start for Reno on Friday night, but the Aces fell 5-0 to the Sky Sox at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs.
Rosario, who has making his first start above Class-A, allowed just three runs on seven hits through 6.0 inning, while striking out six in the stretch. He retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced, before allowing a four-pitch walk to lead off the seventh.
The Aces offense struggled all night, including 14-straight retired batters beginning in the fourth inning. Reno managed just six hits on the night, including an infield single off the bat of outfielder Tom Belza in his Triple-A debut.
For the second-consecutive night, Chris Owings avoided going hitless with a ninth inning knock, this time a double.
The game marked Reno's fourth shutout loss of the season, evening their record at 4-4 in shutouts this season.
Despite delivering a quality start, Rosario was charged with the loss. Reliever Bryan Woodall allowed two runs in the eighth, giving the Sky Sox a 5-0 advantage. Woodall struck out two and walked two through 2.0 innings.
The series continues tomorrow at Security Service Field. RHP Mark Serrano (0-0, No ERA) will get the nod for Reno in place of injured RHP Zeke Spruill, while the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Chris Volstad (5-1, 4.55 ERA). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. PT, and all of the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.
