Express Rallies for 6-4 Victory

July 5, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - After falling behind by three runs entering the bottom of the fourth, the Round Rock Express (50-39) completed the come from behind win with six runs over the final five innings of offense to defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers 6-4 Friday night at Dell Diamond.

Express starter Scott Richmond tied his season-high with 7.0 innings of work, allowing four runs, but keeping Round Rock within striking distance by working his way around trouble throughout the night.

The Omaha offense wasted no time getting started when designated hitter Max Ramirez doubled in two runs in the top of the first to spot the Storm Chasers a 2-0 lead.

Omaha's pitching staff was on par with last night's performance through the first three innings, holding the E-Train offense to just one hit.

The Storm Chasers put a third run on the board in the top half of the fourth when the Express infield was unable to turn an inning-ending double play, allowing a run to score from third on the fielder's choice.

First baseman Mike Bianucci put Round Rock on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame, ripping a two-run shot just inside the left field foul pole to cut the lead to just one at 3-2.

A RBI single off the bat of center fielder Paulo Orlando in the sixth bumped the Storm Chasers advantage back to two, but the Express countered in the bottom of the inning. Shortstop Leury Garcia got things started with an infield single and two batters later stole second. The speedy middle infielder came around to score on a RBI single from Joey Butler, making the score 4-3. The offense wasn't done as second baseman Yangervis Solarte brought home Butler with a RBI double to knot the game at four apiece. Solarte's double chased Omaha starter Danny Duffy from the game, forcing the Storm Chasers into the bullpen.

Omaha's bullpen worked its way out of the sixth but Round Rock's offense rallied once more in the eighth. Garcia set the table again with a leadoff double and moved to third on left fielder Aaron Cunningham's single. With runners on first and third and the infield in, Butler hit a ground ball to the shortstop, but Storm Chasers catcher Brett Hayes could not complete the tag on Garcia at the plate as the go ahead run scored. Round Rock added one more run in the inning, loading the bases with no outs before Bianucci registered his third RBI of the night on a sacrifice fly to give the Express an insurance run at 6-4.

Right-hander Cory Burns finished off the ninth to nail down his 16th save of the season as the Express evened the series at one game apiece. Reliever Nate Robertson picked up his third win after a scoreless eighth while Louis Coleman suffered the loss for Omaha.

The Express continues a four-game set with the Storm Chasers Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Alexi Ogando (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make a rehab start for Round Rock while Omaha will send southpaw Everett Teaford (3-2, 2.65 ERA) to the mound. Saturday will be the conclusion of Red, White and Blue Weekend at Dell Diamond with the third consecutive post-game fireworks extravaganza following the game.
