Romeri, Paniagua Named Cardinals Co-Player, Pitcher of the Month
August 6, 2022 - Florida State League (FSL)
Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Former Palm Beach Cardinals OF Patrick Romeri and RHP Inohan Paniagua earned organization-wide accolades for their respective July stat lines!
Romeri is named the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Co-Player of the Month, alongside OF Chase Pinder of Double-A Springfield. Paniagua meanwhile is the farm system's Pitcher of the Month. It's the second consecutive month the 22-year-old has won the award, having been named Pitcher of the Month in June as well.
Romeri--a 21-year-old from Sarasota, Fla.--displayed an extraordinary .400/.459/.818 slash line and five home runs over 17 games in July. Donning the Palm Beach uniform for the second consecutive year, the IMG Academy alum earned a promotion to High-A Peoria on July 29.
After going on the injured list in May, Romeri returned to Palm Beach on July 1 and logged hits in 13 of his 15 most recent games with the club. He compiled a .325 batting average and 1.011 OPS with the Cardinals across all appearances in 2022.
Paniagua meanwhile departed Single-A with a 2.18 ERA over 17 appearances in 2022, all starts, including four in July. Across the month, the Dominican Republic native logged a 1.50 ERA and an opposing batting average .131. His call to Peoria came on July 26th. The righty tossed a seven-inning, one-hit win against Jupiter on July 4 in a performance that earned him Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors, while also allowing just a single hit over eight frames against Lakeland on July 12. The No. 27 St. Louis prospect according to MLB Pipeline left the FSL with league-bests in both ERA and strikeouts.
The duo helped spearhead an effort to pull Palm Beach from a 14-27 start to 2022 into a team that leads the Florida State League East Division second half by two games as of August 5, with a 50-48 overall record.
