Bradenton Marauders News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Marauders built a seven-run lead Saturday night and staved off late threats in a 9-6 win over the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels at Hammond Stadium.

The victory kept the Marauders (22-13, 51-49) in a two-way tie with the Tampa Tarpons for first place in the West Division.

Bradenton jumped on Fort Myers (14-19, 55-42) starter Mike Paredes early, as Tsung-Che Cheng led off the game with a triple and scored on a Rodolfo Nolasco sacrifice fly. The second inning saw Pirates' 2022 third-round draftee, Jack Brannigan, single to left field in his first Single-A at-bat, then scored on a Jasiah Dixon triple for a 2-0 Marauders lead.

Cheng added an RBI-double in the third inning, and in the fifth, the Marauders sent ten men to the plate in a four-run rally. A leadoff two-base error set up an RBI-single for minor league rehabber Lolo Sanchez, and Brannigan followed with a two-run homer to left field, knocking Paredes from the game after allowing six runs on ten hits. Juan Jerez greeted new pitcher Jackson Hicks with a single, and three straight walks followed, the last of which was a bases-loaded walk to rehabbing Pirates prospect Nick Gonzales to stretch the Bradenton lead to 7-0.

Marauders starter Joelvis del Rosario held the Mighty Mussels scoreless in his first four innings but allowed back-to-back doubles to Dillon Tatum and Carlos Aguiar in the fifth followed by a Misael Urbina RBI-single, bringing the score to 7-2.

Rehabbing minor league righty Grant Ford pitched a scoreless sixth for the Marauders, stranding two walks, but allowed a hit-by-pitch and an Urbina RBI-double in the seventh and eventually exited with one out, experiencing apparent discomfort on the mound. Yunior Thibo allowed one inherited runner to score before finishing the seventh, and the Marauders lead was cut to 7-4.

The two teams traded two-run blasts in the eighth, with Jase Bowen driving a Samuel Perez offering onto the left-field wall in the top half before Aguiar delivered a two-run shot to straightaway center off Thibo in the home half for Fort Myers.

Left-hander Mitchell Miller turned in a scoreless ninth for the Marauders, stranding a two-out bloop single and earning his first career save.

The Marauders finished with 12 hits, with five players-Bowen, Brannigan, Cheng, Dixon, and Sanchez-recording two hits each. Brannigan also stole two bases in the game to help lead the offensive output.

The Marauders go for the series win Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Hammond Stadium. RHP Po-Yu Chen will start for the Marauders, while Fort Myers has yet to announce a starting pitcher.
