Rome, GA. The ABA 2007 expansion Rome Knights shocked close to 20,000 Romans at the city's Annual Christmas Parade as they rode into town. With trumpeters heralding, wenches and serfs passing out crowns, team owners, staff, fans and sponsors alike waved and received cheers from spectators along the parade route. "This was a response we never really expected," said co-owner Alexis Prasinos. "The town really surprised us."

Leading thw ay, the Knights had a princess flanked by trumpeters sounding their arrival followed by cheerleaders, dancers, wenches and serfs, followed by the King and his Knights on horseback in full regalia, complete with Santa hats. "This has been a night to remember for us, the entire time we heard shouts of way to being in a team, how can we get tickets, when's the first game, where's tryouts," said co-owner Pat Martin.

When asked why make appearances a year before you play, team co-owner Elena Brown took the reigns, "This is the community's team, not ours and we will be out in the public every month in some form or fashion. There is more to being a pro team than what you don the court. It's caring about your community, it's reading to kids at the Boys & Girls Club; it's taking under-privileged kids shopping for Christmas, it's doing a motorcycle ride for a fallen policeman, it's supporting those that support you. We love this city and by the cheers at the parade, this is the start of something wonderful." For more information, email romeknights@bellsouth.net or visit www.romeknights.com or www.abalive.com.
