ABA adds Corpus Christi expansion team

December 15, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN -- The American Basketball Association announced that another Texas team has been added to its roster of expansion teams for the 2007 season - Corpus Christi.

According to Joe Newman, "The division there is shaping up beautifully with this great new addition to the league. Solid ownership group, already in sports, with a great management team; the perfect fit. We couldn't be more pleased."

The team will be owned by Chad Dittman, owner of the Corpus Christi Hammerheads professional indoor football team. Chad also serves as President and Commissioner of the nine team league entering its fourth season in play in April, a league he founded on 2003 at the age of 24. The Hammerheads currently average over 5,700 fans per game under Chad's leadership. Formerly he served for three years as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Corpus Christi Ice Rays professional hockey team - and helped the team have an unbelievable run of over 100 sell outs in a row over the first three season.

Prior to his entry into sports, he started one of the most successful T-Mobile distributorships in the country. Dittman stated, "In addition to football, my dream was to own a professional basketball team. This is an exciting day for myself, my family, and staff and we will take on a new challenge and work hard to bring our community the best product the ABA has to offer."

The team will play all home games at the Central Pavilion Arena in Robstown, Texas. The Arena is managed by Global Spectrum and will seat around 3000 for basketball events. The unnamed team will conduct a name a team contest that will end January 5, 2007. You can enter the "Name the Team Contest" by visiting the team's temporary Web site at www.sthoops.com . The winner will receive two Courtside Season Tickets for the inaugural season and a team jersey with his/her favorite number.
