Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Rattlers will play again in 2005. Down 2-0 in a best-of-five Championship Series, Wisconsin Timber Rattler starting pitcher Robert Rohrbaugh pitched eight shutout innings and struck out seven to keep a potent South Bend Silver Hawk line up off the board. Chris Colton drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to force in the winning run in a 1-0 Timber Rattler victory in Game Three.
South Bend had a good early opportunity with runners at first and second and only one out in the third, but Rohrbaugh got out of the inning with a fly ball to left and a strikeout. After that he retired the next sixteen batters.
Wisconsin had runners on in every inning against South Bend starter Koley Kolberg, but their best chance came in the bottom of the seventh. Colton doubled to start the inning and was sacrificed to third. Kolberg left in favor of reliever Hippolito Guerrero to get out of the jam. Guerrero got a strike out and a pop out to keep the game scoreless. Kolberg got a no decision despite striking out ten in 6-1/3 innings.
The Silver Hawks threatened in the eighth. Jereme Milons singled with two out, then stole second. But, Rohrbaugh recorded his seventh strikeout when he got Emilio Bonifacio looking to end the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Brent Johnson drew a lead off walk from Chris Thompson and was sacrificed to second base. Jeff Clement was walked intentionally to set up a double play. Then, Thompson struck out Mike Wilson for out number two. The Silver Hawks went to the bullpen to bring lefty Todd Stein in to face left-hand hitting Marshall Hubbard. But, Stein would walk Hubbard on four straight pitches.
South Bend went to the bullpen again and Josh Perrault entered to face Colton. He missed the inside corner on a 3-1 pitch and Johnson crossed the plate with the only run of the game.
Stephen Kahn took over for Rohrbaugh in the top of the ninth inning and got the first two outs before he gave up a two out single to Cesar Nicolas. But, Kahn got the final out to preserve the victory and force Game Four on Friday night.
Shawn Nottingham is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers on Friday. South Bend plans on Chris Kinsey. Game time is 6:35pm.
Game Four will be a "Bang for Your Buck" Night with soda, hot dogs, and beer available for just $1.
