Medford Rogues News Release

BELLINGHAM, WA - The Medford Rogues won their fifth straight game and remained solidly in the WCL playoff hunt with a 3-2 win over the Bellingham Bells at Joe Martin Field tonight.

Following a Bells run in the first, Medford answered with two in the third. After singles by Danny McNabb and Spencer Smith and a walk to Parker Miles, Bellingham pitcher Nick Baker threw an attempted pickoff down the right field line allowing McNabb and Smith to score and give the Rogues a 2-1 lead.

The score held until the seventh as Rogues starting pitcher John Forsythe flirted with danger all night. The Bells stranded nine runners as Forsythe gave up seven hits and four walks in his six innings worked before being relieved by Jeff Hardy to start the seventh. In the seventh the Bells tied the game at two as Hardy gave up a run before being taken out for Brandon Williams.

In the top of the eighth, one-out singles by Smith and Miles put runners at the corners. Smith then scored on a double steal as Bellingham catcher Jake Bailey bobbled a throw home, giving Medford a 3-2 lead. Williams (4-3) then shut the door in the eighth and ninth to seal the win. Baker (1-2) took the loss for Bellingham.

Medford (25-22) remains 3 ½ games out of a playoff berth and 4 ½ games out of first place in the WCL South, with seven league games to play. Three wins would give Medford the first winning season from any expansion team in WCL history.

The two teams finish their three-game series at 1:05 p.m. on Thursday before the Rogues head for Cowlitz to take on the Black Bears for a three-game series in Longview, WA.
